Lesson 1
Prior Knowledge: Students are familiar with the internet and search techniques. Students are aware of the need to acknowledge sources of information and have completed referencing activities. Students are familiar with Activ Inspire and flip chart presentations.

Students will gather information using the focus questions, links and resources provided in the WebQuest.
Students will:
  • Complete a retrieval chart summarising the information they have gathered in answering the focus questions.
  • Use the desktop tool and other tools in Activ Inspire to annotate a map detailing their flight routes and travel plans.
  • Include information pertaining to key, scale and bearings when completing this map.
  • Display these maps in a flip chart presentation.
  • Acknowledge information sources using references.
  • Question their classmates regarding directions, distance and scale as depicted on the maps.
  • Responding students will each have the opportunity to use interactive whiteboard to respond to a question.

Lesson 2
Prior Knowledge: Students are familiar with concept maps and have used Webspiration on previous occasions.

Students will produce a Webspiration brainstorm that summarises information located from internet sources. This information will form the basis of a developing itinerary.
Students will:
  • Include links to internet resources.
  • Organise information in such a way as to allow logical development of a time and date based itinerary.
  • Include travel distances and or times.
  • Include the location of any undertaken activities, tours etc.

Lesson 3
Prior Knowledge: Students have previously covered 24hr time and are familiar with the definition of ‘verb’.

Using their completed concept maps and retrieval charts students plan an itinerary for one week of their holiday.
Students will:
  • include dates, times, places visited and activities undertaken at that place.
  • use 24-hour time
  • use a verb to begin each part of the itinerary
  • present this information in a PowerPoint format in order to justify the decisions they have made regarding activities undertaken and places visited to their teacher, classmates and school principal.
  • Acknowledge information sources using references.

Lesson 4
Prior knowledge: students have operated the video camera previously but have not used Windows Movie Maker.

Working collaboratively in small groups students will develop a video presentation targeted at encouraging their NZ student counterparts to return the visit. Students will take the role of potential hosts providing information NZ students may require if they were travelling to Australia. This presentation will provide information pertaining to their Australian school and community.
Students will:
  • Plan their video using the video story board worksheet.
  • Decide upon group roles to create the film.
  • With teacher assistance upload and save their video.
  • Apply basic editing such as adding transitions, title clip, text overlay, music etc.
  • Present this video to their classmates for critiquing

Reflection Activity
Students will reflect on their experiences in planning their trip and itinerary and collaboratively produce a brochure guide for their New Zealand counterparts who are about to undertake the same exercise.

Students will:

  • Include map and directions.
  • Highlight interesting facts about their town and school.
  • Include useful pictures
  • Provide information that would assist the exchange student in planning their own travel.
  • Provide information on useful ICT tools to help the student plan their trip.
Show awareness of audience by using language targeted at encouraging the student to visit
